Match Report: Brackenfell III vs Paarl East

Brackenfell 3 travelled to Paarl on Saturday, 1 November 2014, to play against Paarl East in a 40 over match that saw all 480 legal balls bowled and 390 runs scored between the 2 teams. Yes, it was a long day and some tired bodies walked off the field that evening at 19:00. Both teams gave it their all and Paarl East won the match by 1 wicket, scoring the winning run on the last ball of the match.

The day started off on a good note with Brackenfell winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Opening pair G. Conradie and J. Kotze gave the visitors a good start. After losing a few wickets A. Mostert and L. Louw created a good partnership, until both were dismissed. E. van Dyk came to the crease and scored quickly to get Brackenfell to 194 all out after 40 overs.

The home side lost a quick wicket in the first over due to some brilliant fielding by the team, taking the first run-out opportunity that came their way. Wickets kept falling at regular interval and all of the bowlers contributed to the wicket count. In the end a century by N. Kermis took the match away from Brackenfell. He scored 6 runs off the last ball to win the match for Paarl East 196/9 after 40 overs.

It was a close game and everyone contributed either with the bat or ball. We were good as a unit in the field. A little more practice needed?
