FBTClogoJPG

Brackenfell Cricket Club is delighted to announce a long-term sponsorship deal with FBT Consultants (FBTC), an accredited training and medical assessment company.

FBTC is a Brackenfell based company with a national footprint. Their vision is to train for a better tomorrow and to give learners the required skills to be employable.

All their facilitators, assessors and moderators are subject matter experts and registered with the required education and training authorities.

FBTC also supports customers by managing and providing critical quality and compliance data on behalf of customers. This way they ensure no negative impact due to non compliance.

Owner, Francois Gantz, has more than 18 years of training and development experience, and is very hands on in his business.

Francois (a cricket and sportslover) is actively involved in our Club and goes out of his way to support the local community where possible.

FBTC’s sponsorship will assist us to support more local talent and give more players the opportunity to develop their skills. Brackenfell Cricket continues to serve the local community by creating a venue where cricket players, cricket lovers, our youth and friends can come and relax.

For some it's a place of relaxation, for others, it’s where we play the best game in the
world.

We wish to welcome FBTC on board and look forward to the partnerships.

2017/2018 ON OUR DOORSTEP

Newlands

Yes people, it is that time of the year again where we need to remove the cobwebs from our cricket bags and start practicing.

What makes it more exiting this coming season is is that we will be playing our cricket in the Western Province leagues. This is new territory for the club and we have lots to prove as the current Cobras T20 Community champs.

BCC 1st X1 is fortunate to go straight into the Premier League where we will battle it out with 11 other clubs. They will play 2day cricket with some T20's.

Our 2nds will slot in the Reserve C league where we will only play 50 over and T20 cricket just as we did in the Boland. We are looking forward to more competitive cricket on a weekly basis.

Our 3rds will be playing in the third division, playing 35 over matches. The 3rds are leaving Boland as the T20 and league winners. May your good fortunes continue.

New Coach:

We are also very happy to announce that Lee-Roy Walters has been appointed as player-coach for the upcoming season. Lee-Roy comes with wealth of experience as he played first-class cricket for Eastern Province and Boland – and franchise competition for the Warriors and Cape Cobras – between 2005 and 2015.

We wish you all the best, Lee-Roy.

New Players:

We as a club accommodate the young and the old. We see this move to WP also as an excellent opportunity for the young cricketers out there in the Northern Suburbs to get exposure in the top leagues.

We also see this move  to WP as an opportunity for new players to join us in helping us in writing a new chapter of Brackenfell Cricket Club’s history.

Any new player that wants to join must please contact Manrich Kotze via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Practice times:

The club practices on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 17h00 with the 1st practice on 10 August 2017.

We have booked indoor nets at Peninsula Cricket Academy on the following dates:

-        24 Aug 2017 from 20h00 – 21h45

-        31 Aug 2017 from 20h00 – 21h45

-        02 Sep 2017 from 09h00 – 10h45

-        07 Sep 2017 from 20h00 – 21h45

-        09 Sep 2017 from 09h00 – 10h45

-        14 Sep 2017 from 20h00 – 21h45

In closing:

We as BCC Committee want to wish everybody good luck for the new season ahead. May you score lots of runs and take plenty of wickets. Let’s go show our new union and opponents what we are made of. Let’s go display our brand of cricket that makes BCC what it is. Play hard and fair and let us make new friends this coming season.

The 17th Golden Oldies World Cricket Festival

The 17th World Golden Oldies Cricket Festival will be held in Cape Town from 22 – 28 March. Cricketers over the age of 35 (up to one redoubtable US based player who is 82) will be enjoying good cricket and great hospitality at local cricket clubs throughout Cape Town and the winelands.

Golden Oldies Cricket was formed in 1982 and the 1st World Golden Oldies Festival took place in Auckland, New Zealand in 1984. Since then, the Festival has been played regularly (every two years) in diverse cricketing destinations including among others Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Auckland, Wellington, Harrogate, Vancouver, Colombo, Brighton and previously in Cape Town in 1998.

The 17th Festival has attracted more than 50 teams and included amongst their number are teams called the Hungover Old Gents, International Fingletoads, Newcastle Lord's Taverners, Griffith University Old Gits, Valley Diehards, Hawkes Bay Hobblers, Gentlemen of Nowra and the Pietermaritzburg Fat Boys -all dedicated to playing as hard as their age and agility on the field will allow and enjoying the fun, friendship and fraternity of Golden Oldies Festivals off the field.

Golden Oldies Festivals attract players from modest club level through to ex-internationals. Joining the Festival in Cape Town is legendary West Indian fast bowler, Joel Garner who is an Ambassador for Golden Oldies Cricket; wily past Australian leg-spinner, Bob Holland; and South African internationals, Alan Dawson, Steve Palframan, John Commins and Dave Rundle. The Festival Patron is past South African Test player, Mike Procter who, though not playing, will be a welcome part of the activities.

The Festival Week includes a Parade of teams at Newlands, an Opening Welcome Party and a Finale Awards Dinner. Each team plays three games during the week and in the true spirit of Golden Oldies Cricket there are no trophies, as teams play for bragging rights and who will pay for the first round after the game.

The Coach is on Fire!

Match Report: Brackenfell II vs Coronation (T20)

So Riaan hands me a CD filled with photos from the recent T20 match I didn't play. After looking at the first 40 photos of the coach playing shot after shot it soon became clear. This was the day he had his boet come round to take some pictures of the team erm him.....

I wasn't at the game, but seem to recall Riaan got some runs, 50 odd. Poor old Tim was ordered to 'Bat through' and anchor the innings. Riaan made a point of reminding him of this at the end of each over. So here follows some photos of Riaan, throwing the bat and Tim anchoring the innings. O and the Skipper - Dennis having a heave-ho and getting cleaned up. Enjoy

Wiaan Smit - We Salute You!

Brackenfell 1st team captain Wiaan Smit celebrated his 100th career hundred on Saturday when he scored a 64 ball hundred against Wellington.

Wiaan, currently 40 years of age, started early. He scored his 1st hundred for Mikro against De Kuilen as a 10 year old. From Mikro Primary, Wiaan went to Paarl Gymnasium, where he represented the Boland Nuffield team from 1990 – 1992. After finishing he studied at the University of Stellenbosch and it was during this time that he made his First-class debut for Boland. (1994)

After his studies, Wiaan was contracted by the Freestate. Here he played with the likes of Nicky Boje, Gerhardus Liebenberg, Alan Donald and the late Hansie Cronje. Wiaan spent the South African winters playing and coaching cricket in Ireland.

After joining Brackenfell Cricket Club more than a decade ago, he has been instrumental in our success. He has lead the 1st team to numerous trophies and continues to do so. He loves the game and he loves developing young players. He is always willing to share his vast knowledge with them.

I am not sure if everyone understands the magnitude of Wiaan's achievement. There are many very fine cricketers out there, who retire, not having scored double figures in centuries. The word Legend is used way too often, but this would be an appropriate description.

We are very proud of our captain, long may the runs flow. Wiaan Smit we salute you !
